Calypso Monarch winner gets $1M

There will be the calypso monarch competition at the Dimanche Gras show taking place this evening. Last ditch negotiations between TUCO and some sponsors has seen the much despised prize money of 500 hundred thousand dollars increasing to one million dollars. Calypsonians say their threat to boycott Dimahce Gras had little to do with money and more about respect for calypso music. More from Otto Carrington
