RECIPE: Bacon, Cheddar & Chive Scones

With Valentine’s Day around the corner and on a weekday, we decided to feature recipes that don’t only scream love but that can be made in under an hour! Both of our savoury and sweet recipes are perfect for two, extra-decadent and ready in under an hour!
 
BACON, CHEDDAR & CHIVE SCONES
 
These eggless, savoury scones are perfect for a surprise romantic breakfast or as a yummy treat for your loved one. Use heart-shaped cutters if you want to be extra cheesy and loving this Valentine’s Day.

Bake Time: 24 minutes
Total Time: 39 minutes
Yields: 8 scones
 
INGREDIENTS
 
2 cups all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon baking powder
2 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon ground thyme
2 teaspoons paprika
1 teaspoon black pepper
2 ounces cold butter, cubed
1 cup grated cheddar cheese
⅓ cup finely chopped fresh chives
1 cup cooked, crumbled bacon, optional
¾ cup to 1 cup heavy cream
 
DIRECTIONS
 
1 Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
 
2 In a large bowl, whisk all dry ingredients.
 
3 Using a dough cutter, food processor or your hands, work the cubed butter into the dry ingredients until it becomes crumbly.
 
4 Then, mix in cheese, chives and bacon.
 
5 Add ¾ cup heavy cream; stir to combine. If the dough does not hold together, add cream until it does.
 
6 Transfer the dough to a baking sheet with parchment paper or a Silpat and press the dough into a ¾-inch thick circle.
 
7 Using a sharp knife, cut the circle into wedges, spreading them apart.
 
8 Lastly, brush with heavy cream.
 
9 Bake for 22 to 24 mins or, until golden-brown. Serve warm.
