14 arrested, 9 guns seized in police operations

Police have seized five guns, 19 rounds of ammunition and have arrested five people in various operations between Sunday evening and Monday afternoon.

The Police Service has issued the following statement on their operations:

"Western Division – firearm, ammunition seized

Between the hours of 6:00pm and 11:30pm on Sunday 24th July 2016, Inspector Gonzales along with a party of officers attached to the Western

Division Task Force conducted an anti-crime exercise in the Western Division.

During the exercise 3 persons were arrested in separate incidents for possession of marijuana and possession of cocaine. The officers also found and seized one 12 gauge shotgun, 1 Smith and Wesson Revolver, 1 Pistol, 3 rounds 12 gauge ammunition, 3 rounds .38 ammunition and 3 rounds .40 ammunition. No one was arrested. Investigations are continuing.

Northern Division – firearm, ammunition seized

Between the hours of 8:45pm and 8:00pm on Sunday 24th July 2016 and 9:00pm on Monday 25th July 2016, Ag. Inspector Hernandez, Sgt Dedier, Sgt Greene along with a party of officers attached to the Nothern Division Task Force Area West and Central, Cumuto and Maracas /St. Joseph Police Stations, Arouca and Tunapuna Criminal Investigations Department and Region 2 Homicide conducted several anti-crime exercises in the Caroni South Bank, Cumuto, Maracas /St. Joseph, Mausica and Tunapuna districts.

During the exercises 2 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued, 102 Field Interviews were conducted and 9 persons were arrested for various offences which included outstanding warrants, possession of cocaine and homicide. The officers also found and seized 1 Beretta Pistol and 2 rounds .38 ammunition. No one was arrested. PC Paul is continuing investigations.

The exercises were coordinated by ACP Persad and spearheaded by Ag. Snr Supt Rajkumar and Ag. Snr Supt Moses.

Eastern Division – firearm, ammunition seized

Between the hours of 11:00am on Monday 25th July 2016 and 1:00am on Tuesday 26th July 2016, W/Sgt Lopez-Carr, Cpl Tyson, PC Ramdeen along with a party of officers attached to the Crime Patrol Unit, Criminal Investigations Department Task Force, Mayaro and Biche Police Stations conducted several anti-crime exercises in the Mayaro, Biche and Valencia districts.

During the exercises 7 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued, 6 Field Interviews were conducted, 1 warrant was executed and 5 persons were arrested for various offences.

Of the persons arrested two men ages 17 and 18 were charged for possession of 1 Beretta pistol and 8 rounds 9mm ammunition."
