A 19-year-old Arima man is currently warded at the hospital in stable condition, after being wounded in a shooting incident with the police in the Arima district.
According to police reports, officers of the Tunapuna Crime Patrol Unit were on mobile patrol along the Priority Bus Route around 2:15 am, on August 20th when they observed a black Nissan Almera motor vehicle proceeding in an easterly direction, break the traffic lights at the Pasea Road intersection, Tunapuna.
Officers immediately gave chase, however, the vehicle did not stop and proceeded to break several other traffic lights, before turning onto the Arima Old Road.
The vehicle was subsequently intercepted at Calvary Hill, Arima, in the vicinity of King Street with one occupant.
As the officers attempted to arrest the suspect, he reached for one of the officer’s police issued firearm and a struggle ensued. During the struggle, the firearm was discharged and the suspect was hit in the left leg.
The wounded suspect; a 19-year-old of Calvary Hill, Arima, was taken to the Arima Health Facility and later transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.
