21-year-old woman beaten, chopped; claims police ignored her report

One day before International Women's Day, a 21-year-old woman has taken to Facebook claiming she was beaten and chopped by neighbours in Freeport on Sunday.

The woman posted several pictures of marks about her body.

The woman who goes by the name Samantha Omelia, posted several pictures on Facebook with the comment, "Brutally beaten n chopped by my neighbor with a machete and a iron pipe, Freeport police station ignored my report,we live in an unfair world."

Calls to the Freeport Police Station did not yield much.

Police were guarded, saying they were working on but said the name they have is different from the one the woman carries on Facebook.

CNC3 has learnt that the incident stems from a land dispute between two families.

We're told that on Sunday one of the families attempted to reclaim land that they insists belongs to them and a fight broke out, during which the 21-year-old woman was beaten and chopped about the body.

Samantha's family claims that an eviction notice ended last week but that the other family did not move out.

A close friend of the family was also beaten with an iron rod.

The family intends to take the matter up with the Police Complaints Authority.
