Two men of Rio Claro, jointly charged with possession of a firearms and ammunition, have appeared before a Rio Claro Magistrate, to answer to the charges.
Keston John, 20, and Brandon Lezama, 18, both of Ecclesville, Rio Claro, pleaded not guilty to the offences when they appeared before Magistrate Indira Misir Gosine in the Rio Claro Magistrates’ Court on Friday 27th July, 2018.
The men were each granted $80,000 bail with surety and the matter has been postponed to Monday 27th August, 2018.
Both men were arrested by officers of the Eastern Division, during an anti-crime exercise in the Rio Claro district, yesterday.
The exercise, supervised by Sgts (Ag.) Navin Maharaj and Rampersad Mahabir, took place between 3:00am and 9:00am on Thursday 26th July, 2018, and included officers of the Rio Claro Criminal Investigations Department, Task Force, Crime Patrol, Warrant Staff and Canine Unit.
Around 6:05am officers executed a search warrant at the home of the accused.
The search resulted in officers discovering two homemade shotguns and two 12-gauge cartridges hidden under a bed in the house.
John and Lezama were subsequently arrested and charged in connection with the find. PC Vijay Roopnarine, of the Rio Claro CID, laid the charges.
