Accused in Chinese restaurant robbery to reappear in court Wednesday

The five accused in the armed robbery of a Chinese restaurant, at Arouca, on January 7th, 2018, will reappear before an Arima Magistrate on Wednesday 17th January, 2018, to answer to the nine charges arising from the incident.

Samuel Roberts, 30, Jamal Roberts, 25, Dominic Alcantara, 19, Romeo Jude Blackman, 29, and Keon Patoe, 28, all of Beetham Gardens, first appeared before Magistrate Debby Ann-Bassaw in the Arima 3rd Magistrates’ Court on Friday 12th January, 2018, where bail was denied.

They face charges of robbery with violence, possession of firearm and ammunition, while Roberts was also charged with driving without a driver’s permit, driving without certificate of insurance and use of fraudulent identification plate.

Alcantara, Jamal Roberts, and Blackman, were additionally charged with possession of an offensive weapon, while Alcantara was also charged with possession of marijuana and possession of apparatus.

Blackman faced an additional charge of assaulting a police officer, while Patoe, was charged with disorderly behavior.

Four men entered Yiahao Chinese restaurant, at Eastern Main Road, Arouca around 10:25am on Sunday 7th January, 2018, where they announced a robbery and proceeded to hit the owner of the establishment several times about the body, before exiting the restaurant with TT$2,200.

As the men entered a Hyundai Elantra motor vehicle driven by a 5th suspect, officers of the NDTF, foiled their escape.

A search of the vehicle was conducted and one Jennings pistol, along with one round of .22mm ammunition, a knife and the stolen cash, were discovered.

The five accused were charged by Cpl Richard Ramcharan, of NDTF, for robbery with violence and possession of firearm and ammunition, while Blackman, was charged by Cpl Ricardo Pamphille, for disorderly conduct.

Alcantara was charged for possession of marijuana and apparatus and Patoe, was charged with disorderly behavior, by PC Brent Bernard, of NDTF.

All the charges were laid on Thursday 11th January, 2018.
