Airport parking rates go up again

The cost of parking in the public carpark at the Piarco International Airport will increase to $10 in two weeks time, an announcement by the Airports Authority says.

The is currently $8 per hour or any part thereof.

But the Airports Authority has issued a statement saying, "Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago wishes to advise of an increase in its public car parking rates effective July 1st, 2016.

"The new rates are as follows:

Hourly rate: $10.00

Daily Rate: $63.00

Monthly Rate: $750.00"

The statement goes on to say: "To our valued customers, due to operational costs, the provision of improved facilities and services, enhanced security surveillance and the introduction of a free cell phone car park waiting lot, rates for use of the public car park have had to be increased."

A cellphone lot is a parking lot, typically located at airports, where people can wait before picking up passengers.

The purpose of these lots is to reduce congestion at arrival sections by preventing cars from continuously circling around the airport

The increase in fare comes at a time when travelling is at a peak during the school vacation period.
