One day after it threatened Petrotrin with legal action, the company at the centre of the oil fraud scandal at Petrotrin is also threatening to sue the Opposition Leader.
A&V Oil and Gas Limited has issued a pre-action protocol letter through its attorney Senior Counsel Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj to Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar, demanding a full retraction of her comments and an apology.
The letter points to statements made by the Opposition Leader at a UNC meeting on Sunday 10th September 2017.
The letter claims that some of the statements were defamatory and calls for a full apology, retraction and a removal of posts on the UNC Facebook page.
It has also called for compensation and payment of legal fees.
The letter calls on Persad-Bissessar to give an undertaking not to publish or republish any defamatory words against him A&V Oil and Gas Limited's director Hanif Nizam Baksh.
The letter states that failure to do so by Monday 18th September 2017 at 4 pm, would result in legal action being taken.
