Coast Guard rescues crew from sinking ship

The Coast Guard have rescued the crew of a boat that was sinking in south of Chacachacare island last night.

The following is the Coast Guard's account of what transpired.

"On Tuesday 24th May 2016, at approximately 10:16pm, Coast Guard Headquarters received a distress call from the Captain of Rig Tender “Franq Ciriuti” en route to Tobago, stating that the vessel was sinking and they are in need of urgent assistance.

Coast Guard’s Coastal Patrol Vessel CG23 – TTS Point Lisas was dispatched to a location just 1.5 Nautical Miles south of Chacachacare in the vicinity of the First Boca. Four (4) crew members of the vessel were rescued safely and returned to Staubles Bay where they were examined by medics and found to be in good health.

The Shipping Agents have been contacted and the rescued crew are now under the Agent’s care."
