Coast Guard vessel takes over 23 tonnes of relief supplies to Dominica

The Ministry of National Security says it continues to provide air and maritime support to Dominica following the passage of Hurricane Maria.

A statement by the Ministry of National Security says it is pleased to advise that Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard (TTCG) vessel TTS BRIGHTON (CG 24), departed Port of Spain on 02 October, 2017 en route to Dominica with approximately 23.3 tonnes of disaster relief items generously donated by private citizens and Corporate Trinidad and Tobago.

The sixty-one (61) persons on board the TTCG vessel comprise soldiers, crew and five (5) civilian medical staff who will provide support in areas including medical services and relief distribution.

Monday’s deployment brings the total tonnage of relief items transported to Dominica by TTCG vessels to 36.70 tonnes.

The Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force (TTDF) team on the ground in Dominica continues to provide support in the areas of damage assessment, relief distribution, search and rescue and medivac assistance.

Minister of National Security Edmund Dillon is thanking all those who have responded to the national relief efforts and encourages continued contributions at locations previously identified by the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force (TTDF) and the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM).
