A Couva pensioner has died, and police suspect he perished after he collapsed and was burned by the rubbish he set on fire near his home on Wednesday.
The man has been identified as 73-year-old Lalbeharry Ramnanan, of Palm Avenue, of Esperanza village.
The man was taken to hospital for treatment after being rescued from the flames, but he died at the hospital.
The elderly man was found by his son, Mahadeo Ramnanan, who told police he went to check on his father and discovered him unconscious about 500 feet in a bushy area at the back of his yard.
Police said the elderly man was found lying on a pile of burning bushes with severe burns.
