A Diego Martin man who allegedly came to South Trinidad hoping to sell 16 protected birds, was instead arrested in a sting operation.
He is expected to appear in the San Fernando Magistrates Courton Thursday charged with 16 offences.
The 23-year-old man from Richplain Road, Diego Martin, had allegedly brokered a sale for ten yellow headed parrots and six white eyed conures (which are small to medium-sized parrots.)
However, when he arrived at Gasparillo instead of meeting the buyer he was confronted by officers of the Southern Division Task Force and game wardens.
The parrots were being sold for $500 each while the price for conures was $300 each. The birds were handed over to zoo officials but are expected to be produced in court on Thursday.
The suspect was charged by senior game warden Steve Seepersad. The offence carries a maximum fine of $10,000.
