The annual Divali Nagar officially opens its doors to the public from tonight but the event needs an additional $1.4 million.
Deokienanan Sharma, President of the NCIC, says the Ministry of Culture allocated $800,000 to the NCIC for this year’s event.
Sharma said the NCIC had asked for $2.2 million and had gotten $1.5 mill ion last year.
NCIC public relations officer Surujdeo Mangaroo made an appeal to members of the business community to assist with funding the event.
Mangaroo said many of the artistes who perform have agreed to take a wage cut and a hefty sum is paid for police, private security and other services.
