The Ministry of Education has announced changes to the Textbook Programme which is says have become necessary because of financial constraints.
The Ministry issued a statement this afternoon announcing the changes:
"The Ministry of Education wishes to advise parents, teachers and all stakeholders in the education system that in light of current financial constraints and the need to ensure value for money, the Ministry has reviewed the Textbook Programme and made adjustments accordingly.
Efforts are being made to facilitate the effective procurement through the Education Facilities Company Limited (EFCL) and price negotiations are ongoing with publishers.
The Ministry of Education has made a commitment to provide textbooks to students for the current academic year 2015/2016.
There will be:
1. a 10% top up of textbooks and a 100% replacement of workbooks/combination books at Primary – Infants I and II
2. a 10% top up of textbooks at the Secondary – Form 1
3. a 100% replacement of Special Education resources."
