Senior Counsel Pamela Elder has described the delay by police in charging former Attorney General Anand Ramlogan as oppressive.
Up to 3 pm on Wednesday, Ramlogan had not been charged, although he was detained by police at 6 am on Tuesday.
He can be legally held without charge for 72 hours, on suspicion of a charge.
Elder spoke to reporters outside the police CID around 2.30 pm.
