Flow introduces paid paternity leave

Evolv­ing parental leave pol­i­cy is quite sim­ply and is the right thing to do says Chief Peo­ple Of­fi­cer of Lib­er­ty Latin Amer­i­ca, par­ent com­pa­ny of Ca­ble and Wire­less and its con­sumer brand Flow Trinidad.

He made the re­mark as em­ploy­ees of Flow Trinidad can now en­joy paid ma­ter­ni­ty leave of 16 weeks and paid pa­ter­nal leave of eight weeks.

The pol­i­cy will pro­vide paid leave to em­ploy­ees fol­low­ing the birth of an em­ploy­ee’s child, place­ment of a child with an em­ploy­ee in con­nec­tion with adop­tion or fos­ter care, or birth of a child via ges­ta­tion­al sur­ro­ga­cy.

Scott said the com­pa­ny recog­nised that di­ver­si­ty dri­ves suc­cess, and fam­i­ly dy­nam­ics and struc­tures have changed.

He said, “Our new pol­i­cy demon­strates our com­mit­ment to a cul­ture of di­ver­si­ty and in­clu­sion and one that puts our peo­ple at the heart of our suc­cess.” The ini­tia­tive is dubbed an in­no­v­a­tive and pro­gres­sive pol­i­cy,

Speak­ing about the new ini­tia­tive, new­ly ap­point­ed Flow Coun­try Man­ag­er Kurleigh Prescod said he was elat­ed a for all of the moth­ers who will have fa­thers around for eight weeks af­ter birth.

The com­pa­ny said staff mem­bers not­ed that parental leave pol­i­cy is im­por­tant to both par­ents and new-borns and is a com­mend­able ini­tia­tive by the com­pa­ny.

They said it will give par­ents time to bond with their new-born and al­lows moth­ers the op­por­tu­ni­ty to get sup­port from the fa­ther dur­ing a time that can be very try­ing for them.

Yolande Agard-Sim­mons, an­oth­er em­ploy­ee said she was par­tic­u­lar­ly im­pressed that the pol­i­cy will cov­er those who may be­come par­ents via adop­tion.

She said the pol­i­cy is nov­el, laud­able and speaks vol­umes about a com­mit­ment to the qual­i­ty of life as em­ploy­ees.
