After extensive investigations carried out by the Anti-Corruption Investigations Bureau (ACIB), a former WASA executive and a director of a contracting company, are charged with corruption involving the sum of $30,000.
The charge arose from an alleged incident which occurred on Friday 13th December, 2013, involving then Head of Procurement at the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA), Wendell Diaz, 45, and Michael Arjune, 48, a director of Kall Co Ltd. Diaz, of Piarco Old Road, D’Abadie, and Arjune, of Boissiere, Maraval, appeared before Magistrate Kerri Honore-Narine in the Port of Spain 1st Magistrates’ Court on Friday 13th July, 2018.
Both accused were granted $250,000 bail each, and ordered to report thrice weekly to the Maloney and Maraval Police Stations respectively; and further ordered to surrender their passports to a Clerk of the Peace.
The matter has been postponed to Friday 10th August, 2018.
Arjune is alleged to have had a gift bag containing a bottle of alcohol and $30,000 cash delivered to Diaz on Friday 13th December, 2013, as a reward for influencing the award of WASA contracts to Kall Co Ltd.
A report on the allegations was made by WASA on Wednesday 11th January, 2018, to ACIB. An investigation was subsequently launched
