A 30-year-old Gasparillo woman is believed to have suffocated after being tied up and duct-taped by bandits in a robbery at the family home and business place this morning.

She has been identified as Carla Achilal.

According to reports, bandits entered the Bonne Adventure Mini-Hardware around 2am where one of the family members, Marlon Achilal was sleeping.

The bandits beat and tied him up and proceeded to rob the hardware of several items.

They then proceeded upstairs to the family home where they tied up and duct-taped the father Vishnu and his daughter, Marlon's sister Carla.

The bandits also stole items from the house before making good their escape.

Marlon was able to raise an alarm and neighbours contacted the police and helped free him and the family.

It was only after they freed Carla that they noticed she was not breathing.

Relatives say Carla was suffering from a genetic disorder, referred to as"down syndrome".

Up until 8 this morning (the time of this report), police and the District Medical Officer were still on the scene.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
