A grandfather who was granted $5,000 bail for illegally selling alcohol and being in possession of marijuana is expected to return to court today.

Rajnath Ramlal, 66, pleaded guilty yesterday in the San Fernando First Court, but due to the number of charge cases Senior Magistrate Jo-Anne Connor adjourned the matter to today to appear before the Second Court.

He was arrested by PC Akiel Smith at his Friendship Village home on Sunday.

The police claimed they found a quantity of alcohol which he was offering for sale without a licence.

The officers also claimed they found 11.5 grammes of marijuana.

The marijuana and alcohol were produced in court.

The alcohol comprised of six cases with a total of 144 bottles of Carib, Stag, Mackeson and Guinness; as well as two bottles of White Oak rum and a bottle of Forres Park Puncheon rum.

Before the charges were read to him in court, he shouted to his attorney, “Guilty on the two charges.”

Court prosecutor Cleyon Seedan did not object to bail.

Ramlal’s attorney Dane Halls said Ramlal, a grandfather of seven and father of two, had one previous conviction from 2016 for drunk driving
