A coconut water product made by a local company is being removed from supermarket shelves, as the Chemistry Food and Drug Administration today revealed it contained only chemicals and additives and no coconut water at all.
Permanent Secretary Donna Ferraz of the Ministry of Health said over the last few years the division has detected a number of cases of food fraud including the discovery of milk imported into Trinidad and Tobago that allegedly contained melamine, a chemical used in making plastic.
CNC3 reached out to the owners of the company who told us that none of the soft drink products use actual flavours.
The company admits that labelling the product a "coconut water" was a misjudgement on its part.
