National cricketer Lendl Simmons has been ruled out of the 2016 Indian Premier League due to injury.

Simmons is part of the defending champions, the Mumbai Indians team.

He had missed out on the major part of the ICC World T20 due to a back injury, before almost single-handedly earning the West Indies a place in the final with a match-winning knock of 82 off 51 balls against hosts India.

Simmons’ record in the IPL is one of the best as he has scored 942 runs in 22 matches at an impressive average of 47.10 scoring 1 hundred and 9 fifties.

New Zealand's opener Martin Guptill will replace Simmons in the Mumbai Indians' squad.
