Kane double gives England 2-1 win over Tunisia

England got its World Cup campaign off to a winning start as captain Harry Kane scored twice, including in injury time, to beat Tunisia 2-1 in Volgograd.

Kane scored after six minutes to give Gareth Southgate hope the perfect start in his first match in charge of the senior England team at a tournament but Tunisia hauled themselves level through Ferjani Sassi’s penalty, hit low to Jordan Pickford’s right, before half-time.

Raheem Sterling and Jesse Lingard wasted several excellent chances to extend their lead at 1-0 and it was left to Kane to head in from close range and give England the start they wanted and, on chances created, deserved.

Colombia take on Japan at 8 am tomorrow, followed by Poland vs Senegal at 11 am and Russia vs Egypt at 2 pm.
