KI Persad wins Chutney Soca Monarch's $1 million prize

The man who is never with the "Same Gyul Twice", KI Persad will continue living nice after being crowned the 2016 Chutney Soca Monarch with a winning purse of $1 million.

Roolal G topped the Traditional category in a competition that saw a large turnout at Skinner's Park in San Fernando.

KI performed last in the competition, as he called on the crowd to do the "KI dance", which they happily did.

It was a performance that that earned him 499 points from the judges. 

KI previously won the title in 2012 and 2014.

He beat Nishard M into second place, with 490 points and a purse of $750,000.

In third place was Ravi B with 470 points. He took home $500,000.

Rikki Jai placed 4th with 469 points and Kenneth Supersad placed fifth. Both took home $100,000 each.

In the Traditional category, Rooplal G's "Woman Like You" earned him 479 points and a cash prize of $150,000.

Shiva Lackhan was second with 464 points followed by Heeralal Rampartap in third place with 457 points.

Asha Kamchee was fourth with 449 points and RT Butkoon placed 5th.

The judges did not announced placings from 5th to 10th.
