A Laventille man is sentenced to 12 months’ hard labour, after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm and a quantity of ammunition, when he appeared before a Port of Spain Magistrate.
Camron Beckles aka ‘Splatter’, 36, of La Pena Extension, Laventille, was sentenced by Magistrate Rehanna Hosein in the Port of Spain 4B Magistrates’ Court, on Wednesday 6th June, 2018.
Beckles was arrested by officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) Fort Chacon Base, after a search warrant was executed at his home, during an anti-crime exercise yesterday.
The exercise, which was supervised by Cpl. Darrel Gunness, of the IATF, took place between 12 pm on Tuesday 5th June, 2018 and 1:40 am on Wednesday 6th June, 2018.
During the exercise, a search warrant was executed at Beckles’ home around 1 pm, and resulted in officers discovering one Tanfoglio pistol fitted with a magazine containing five rounds of 9mm ammunition, hidden in a speaker box in a bedroom.
He was then arrested in connection with the find and subsequently charged by PC Nicholas Ali, of the IATF Fort Chacon Base.
In a separate incident, officers conducted a search of an abandoned house along Mango Alley, Laventille, around 7:30 pm yesterday, where they discovered 21 rounds of 9mm ammunition, hidden in a cigarette pack.
