Main suspect in La Brea murders still in custody; relative released

The primary suspect in the quadruple La Brea murders remains in police custody while his male relative has been released.

The suspect who was arrested while walking along the roadway in Valencia yesterday morning has been transferred from the Arouca Police Station to the Homicide Bureau in South Trinidad.

He remains under close police guard as he's being questioned in connection with the killings of Abigail Chapman, her 15-year-old daughter Olivia Chapman, Mickela Mason, as well as landlord Michael Scott.

While one newspaper claims the suspect confessed to the killings, senior police officers could not confirm that information.

They instead told us a male relative who was held on Saturday night for allegedly habouring the suspect was released.

Officers say the relative was not charged.

They added that the suspect is being questioned while inquiries are conducted into the murders.

Yesterday, relatives of the victims and villagers marched through the Sobo community.

CCouncillorGerald Debisette told us the people of La Brea were hurting over the murders and relieved that the main suspect was held.
