Matura man charged with drug trafficking

A Matura man is expected to appear before a Sangre Grande Magistrate, charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking and possession of ammunition, after he was arrested by officers of the Sangre Grande Task Force yesterday.

Kevin Matthews, 31, a taxi driver, of Toco Main Road, Matura, was charged, after the white Nissan Versa motor vehicle he was driving was stopped and searched along the Toco Main Road, around 11:30 am on Wednesday.

The search resulted in two kilogrammes of marijuana being found hidden in the car bumper and one round of 9mm ammunition, being discovered in the trunk.

The drug has an estimated street value of $20,000.

Matthews was charged by PC Shivanand Ramkissoon, of the Sangre Grande Task Force.
