A pistol and a quantity of ammunition were discovered, during an anti-crime exercise by officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force, Fort Chacon Base in the Belmont district, police said in a statement.
Officers conducted the exercise between 6 pm and 7:30 pm on Monday 15th January, 2018, during which they proceeded to Agostini Street, Belmont, where they carried out a search of an abandoned structure.
The search resulted in one black and silver Ruger pistol, outfitted with one magazine containing five rounds of .40mm ammunition being found.
No arrest was made in connection with the find.
