Police find weapons, drugs in Besson Street, Belmont crackdowns

Two firearms and quantities of ammunition and marijuana are discovered by officers of the Port of Spain Division during an anti-crime exercise in the Besson Street and Belmont districts.

The exercise, which was spearheaded by Snr. Supt. (Ag.) Floris Hodge-Griffith, supervised by Insp. (Ag.) Randall McGuirk and Sgt. (Ag.) Jason Lucas and included a party of officers attached to the Port of Spain Division Task Force (POSDTF) and Besson Street Police Station, took place between 4:00 am and 10:00 am on Thursday 16th August, 2018.

During the exercise, officers executed a search at Bath Street Plannings, Port of Spain, where they discovered five kilogrammes of marijuana valued at TT$50,000, hidden in an abandoned black Nissan Tiida motor vehicle.

The officers also found two firearms; a Colt pistol loaded with six rounds of .45mm ammunition and a Smith and Wesson revolver loaded with five rounds of .38mm Special ammunition, in an abandoned vehicle; a Nissan B15, along Pelham Street, Belmont.

WPC Malika Ramgoolie and PC David St. Clair, of the POSDTF, are continuing enquiries.
