Police officers are stationed along the Beetham Highway to ensure the free flow of traffic.
The residents blocked the road this morning causing traffic.
We understand that action maybe retaliation for a police exercise in the area, during which 2 alleged gang leaders were taken into custody earlier this morning.
The following is a press release from the TTPS:
Police have taken up strategic positions along the Beetham Highway, to ensure a continued, smooth flow of traffic, after debris strewn across the east bound lane around 11:20am today, had to be cleared.
Officers of the Port of Spain Division, under Snr. Supt. (Ag.) Hodge Griffith, as well as, officers from the Inter-Agency Task Force, Guard and Emergency Branch and Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch, responded to reports of debris being placed across the east bound lane by residents, which impeded traffic.
The debris was quickly removed from the roadway with the assistance of personnel from the Port of Spain Regional Corporation and the traffic was free flowing once more by 12noon.
Officers are still on the scene to ensure the safety and security of all road users.
