Police rescue kidnapped Venezuelan

A 33-year-old Venezuelan national kidnapped for ransom while liming at a bar on Saturday 7th October, 2017, has been rescued during a joint police/army exercise in the Carapo district.

No ransom was paid.

Jason Guerra, of Lanse Mitan Road, Carenage was found in bushes in the vicinity of the Santa Rosa Race Track around 3 am this morning.

The exercise, led by DCP (Ag.), Crime and Support, Harold Phillip and coordinated by Snr. Supt. Ajith Persad, was conducted between 4:00 pm, on Tuesday 10th October, 2017 and 3:00 am, on Wednesday 11th October, 2017.

Guerra, who has been living in Trinidad since December 2016, was liming at a bar along the Southern Main Road, Curepe on Saturday 7th October, 2017, when he was forced into a Nissan Tiida motor vehicle.

Eyewitnesses immediately made a report to the St. Joseph Police Station and the information relayed to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit.

Around 10:00 pm that same day, friends of Guerra, received a telephone call, with the caller demanding $100,000, for the safe release of the victim. 

Acting on information, officers of AKU POS, CID/CRO, Northern Division Task Force, Air Support Unit, Inter-Agency Task Force, Guard and Emergency Branch, Canine Unit and the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment, conducted an exercise in the Carapo district. 

During the exercise, Guerra was found in bushes in the vicinity of the Santa Rosa Race Track and taken for medical treatment.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.
