Police seize two excavators at illegal quarrying site

Two pieces of heavy equipment, found at an illegal quarry site in Matura, have been seized.

Two excavators were discovered on State lands, along Orosco Road, Matura, around 10:30pm on Tuesday 4th April, 2017, during an exercise, which comprised members of the Inter-Agency Task Force, Matura Police Station and officials from the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries.

One of the excavators was removed with the assistance of the Trinidad and Tobago Engineering Battalion, of the Defence Force, and taken to Camp Cumuto for safe keeping.

The other, which was discovered to have mechanical problems, is expected to be removed soon.

Cpl Kassieram of Matura Police Station, is continuing enquiries into the ownership of the excavators and the operations of the illegal quarry.
