Police shooting leaves one man dead at La Brea bar

A 23-year-old man is now dead following an altercation with police officers early this morning at a bar in La Brea, in what may be the 37th police-involved shooting for 2018.

Investigators say that around 3:30 this morning, two police officers attached to the La Brea Police Station, responded to a report of a man brandishing a firearm at the Dream Girls Bar.

When officers arrived, they were confronted by a group of persons who threw missiles at them.

In the ensuing melee, one of the officers allegedly drew his firearm and managed to get off one shot.

A man identified as Kyle Thompson of Dubarry Trace in Fyzabad was shot in the chest.

He was taken to the Point Fortin hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

ASP Ramphal is continuing investigations into the police-involved shooting.
