Santa Cruz man drives into police station blaring music, with teargas canister in car

A Santa Cruz man has been arrested for disorderly behavior on the compound of the Santa Cruz Police Station on Tuesday 27th March, 2018.

The suspect, a 36-year-old man of Mc Carthy Street, Santa Cruz, was arrested after he drove onto the compound of the Police Station in a black Toyota Sprinter, blaring music loudly, around 8:30 pm, on Tuesday 27th March, 2018.

The man is alleged to have exited the vehicle and knelt on the ground.

Officers of the station who observed his behavior, called on the man to lie on the ground, but he refused.

The suspect then began removing pieces of his clothing, before lying on the ground on his stomach.

He was subsequently arrested by officers.

Assistance was requested from the Explosive Detection and Disposal Unit and the Canine Branch and a search of the suspect’s vehicle conducted.

The search resulted in one can of tear gas being discovered in the vehicle.

The suspect is expected to be charged today with possession of a prohibited weapon, disorderly behavior and playing a loud and noisy instrument.
