A State witness was gunned down hours after she left a safe house to attend a birthday party on Sunday night.
According to a police report, at about 7.30 pm Veronica Franco, 32, who left the State Witness Protection Programme to attend a party of one of her friends at 12th Street in Barataria was shot dead by two gunmen.
Police said the killers ran into the yard and attempted to shoot at Franco, however, she ran into a house and locked herself inside.
The gunmen kicked open the door and shot her several times before fleeing.
Franco was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mount Hope where she succumbed to her injuries.
Franco, police said, was a witness in a double murder that occurred in Morvant.
Another man was also shot and wounded in the incident.
She is the second State witness to have been killed this month. On May 1, Rajendra Bharath was shot dead at his Don Miguel Road, El Socorro home as he sat in his porch.
Police said he was a witness to a recent murder.
