Suspended police officer charged with murder

A police officer on suspension is due to appear before the Tunapuna Magistrates’ Court charged with the murder of Raj Akash Singh, following a family dispute, at his home on May 11th, 2017.

Kumar Bharath, 44, of Pasea Road Extension, Tunapuna, was charged with murder, after advice was received from the Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard, SC, on Thursday 11th May, 2017.

He also faces an additional charge of common assault.

Singh, 24, a PH driver, also of Pasea Road Extension, Tunapuna, was shot and wounded, at his home on Thursday 11th May, 2017, during an altercation.

He was taken to hospital, where he subsequently died.

Both Bharath and the victim occupied premises in an extended family arrangement. Bharath was suspended from the service in March 2015, for DUI and resisting arrest.

He was charged by ASP (Ag.), Windel Flaviney of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region 2.
