A Trinidad and Tobago woman living in Buffalo, New York has been sentenced to 22.5 years in prison followed by deportation back to this country, for beating her boyfriend to death with a statue.

Debra Haynes-Thomas was sentenced today by State Supreme Court Justice Russell Buscaglia.

Haynes-Thomas pleaded guilty in March to manslaughter in connection with the death of Peter Wiepert, 56, of Cheektowaga.

Investigators say Haynes-Thomas had an argument with Wiepert, then after he fell asleep, she admitted to striking him on the head multiple times with a ceramic statue.

Wiepert died of his injuries.

After she completes her sentence, Haynes-Thomas faces five years post release supervision, and then will be deported back to her native country, Trinidad.
