Meanwhile, the US Embassy in Port-of-Spain issued an alert this evening, advising all of its personnel to exercise additional caution and to keep a low profile.
The statement on the embassy’s website says; “The government of Trinidad and Tobago recently disrupted a plan to attack Carnival. In light of the recent operation, the government of Trinidad and Tobago is taking additional active steps to secure carnival events out of an abundance of caution. US government personnel are advised to exercise additional caution and increased situational awareness if they participate in Carnival events.”
The US embassy advises it personnel to enroll in step, monitor local media for updates, be aware of surroundings and keep a low profile.
The US embassy is believed to have been targeted in an alleged terrorist attack during the Carnival period. Neither the police nor the US embassy has confirmed this information.
