WASA says heavy rainfall affecting water treatment plants in North East Trinidad

Heavy rainfall overnight has affected the operations of several water treatment plants in North East Trinidad.

The following is a press release from WASA:

The Water and Sewerage Authority advises customers that heavy rainfall overnight has impacted operations at several of its Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) throughout North East Trinidad.

This is due to various issues including turbid river conditions, clogged intake screens and power failures.

The affected facilities are: Tompire, Quare, Aripo, Guanapo, Luengo & Naranjo and Acono WTPs.

Areas affected include: Toco, Valencia, parts of Arima, Maracas - St. Joseph, among others.

The affected facilities are expected to return to service when conditions normalize at the various locations.

In view of this situation, customers are advised to manage their water use efficiently, as it may take up to 24 hours thereafter for the restoration of their scheduled pipe borne water supply.

The Authority wishes to assure customers that the water currently being supplied through its distribution system complies with the Guidelines for Drinking Water Quality of the World Health Organisation and is safe for use.
