International: Derailed Amtrak passenger train plunges off bridge onto highway

An Amtrak passenger train derailed onto the I-5 freeway outside of Seattle, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) confirmed Monday.

The derailment caused all southbound lanes of Interstate 5 near Mounts Road in Pierce County to be closed, the Washington State Department of Transportation tweeted.

A highway camera showed at least one train car toppled onto the road, causing a traffic jam.

WSDOT tweeted that drivers should expect delays and avoid the area.
