AG: Opposition Leader "ridiculous" to offer political & legal opinion on unpublished proposed legislation

Attorney General Faris Al Rawi says it is "wildly irresponsible and ridiculous" of Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar, to offer a legal view with respect to proposed legislation, which he says has not even been published.

The AG issued a statement today in response to criticism by Persad-Bissessar on the issue of a three-fifths majority in Parliament.

He says at no time did she quote what he actually said.

The following is the AG's response.

Persad-Bissessar: Any attempts to remove three-fifths requirements will be met with strongest condemnation by Opposition

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar says any attempts by the Attorney General Faris Al Rawi and the Government to remove the requirement for a three-fifths majority of Parliament will be met by the strongest Opposition condemnation.

Persad-Bissessar issued a statement in response to comments made by the AG on Tuesday.

AG: Opposition is running away from debating FATCA reciprocity clause

Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi is arguing that the Opposition walked out of Parliament today only because they did not want to debate the reciprocity of information under the FATCA legislation.

Speaking on the legislation in the Parliament following the Opposition's walkout, Al-Rawi said it is his belief that the Opposition if afraid of what the reciprocity of financial information would disclose.

PM: Security breach has put "children of Attorney General" under threat

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley says a national security officer has created a major security breach that has put the lives of the "children of the Attorney General" under threat, by releasing photos of two children holding weapons.

Although Attorney General Faris Al Rawi has not admitted that the children in the photos released in Parliament by Opposition MP Dr Roodal Moonilal were his, the Prime Minister made a link while speaking during the Budget debate in the House of Representatives Wednesday afternoon.
