A father of three girls has been convicted on a charge of cruelty against one of his daughters and fined $3,000 or in default, face three months hard labour, a police statement said.
De Leon Celestine, 41, of East Dry River, Port-of-Spain, appeared before Magistrate Aden Stroude in the Port of Spain 5th Magistrates’ Court on Thursday to answer to the charge.
He has 28 days in which to pay the fine.
Celestine was found guilty of beating his 14-year-old daughter on Thursday 2nd June, 2016, causing suffering and injury to her health.
Soca artiste Rodney Le Blanc. also known as "Benjai', is demanding swift justice from Guyanese police, after he was assaulted in Guyana last month.
However, the police there want to know if Benjai had fallen out with his attackers in the past.
Benjai, through his attorneys, wrote to the Guyanese DPP and police commissioner saying that since the incident on April 17th, Benjai furnished the police with the identities of two men who allegedly assaulted him after a performance at a Guyanese nightclub.

Yet another attack on a young partygoer at a nightclub in Port-of-Spain has left 22-year-old Nicholas Grillet badly wounded and in excruciating pain. He was allegedly beaten by bouncers attached to the 51 Degrees Night Club located at Cipriani Boulevard, Port-of-Spain.
Speaking with the T&T Guardian yesterday, Grillet said at about 3 am he had an altercation with a patron which escalated into a scuffle outside the club. He said, however, everything was quickly resolved between the two when he (Grillet) made his way up inside the club to lodge a complaint to management.
