Calypso King of "Progress" has died

Calypsonian Austin "King Austin" Lewis has died.

He is known for one of the most popular philosophical songs written by a local calypsonian, "Progress" with a line that ends, "no one can deny, that the price of progress is high".

73-year-old Austin died Saturday morning at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.

He had been suffering from the Alzheimer's disease for the last six years and recently took a turn for the worse, a family member said.

'Gypsy' into Extempo Finals

Winston 'Gypsy' Peters, Cro Cro, Duane O'Connor, Karen Asche and Brian London are just among a few who have qualified for the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians' Organisation's Social Commentary, Political Commentary and Extempo Finals.

The Finals are to be held on Terrific Thursday at the Grand Stand of the Queen's Park Savannah.
