The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service is continuing the riverine flood alert for Trinidad, a statement by the Met Office has said.
It notes that as opposed to Street and Flash Flooding, Riverine Flooding is more prolonged and widespread.
The Met Office says that data from the Water Resources Agency indicate that water levels in the nation’s major rivers have over spilled in some areas and are approaching threshold levels in other areas.
The Met Office is advising persons living along the Caroni River to exercise caution and be vigilant.
The warning comes following consistent rainfall for several hours Friday morning.
"Trinidad and to a much lesser extent Tobago have been experiencing cloudy conditions with periods of rain and showers some of which have been heavy and thundery especially over southern Trinidad.
This rainfall activity is due to an active Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).
