Demolition - There'll be one less building in the city after Easter

Downtown Port-of-Spain will have one less building when the work-week resumes after the Easter holidays.

Minister of Planning and Development Camille Robinson-Regis, has announced that demolition of the old Central Statistical Building, located at 80 Independence Square will begin on Friday March 30th. 

The Port of Spain City Corporation has issued a city demolition permit for the building.

Unemployment rises again

The unemployment rate in this country has increased yet again.

The latest data from the Central Statistical Office (CSO) indicates that the unemployment rate increased from 3.8 percent in the first quarter of 2016 to 4.4 percent in the second quarter.

A year ago the rate was the same 4.4 percent for the second quarter of 2015.

The CSO says the number of unemployed males increased from 3.7 percent to 4 percent.

While unemployed females went up from 4 to 5 percent for the second quarter of 2016.

Unemployment up; stats show 5,000 fewer employed persons than this time last year

The Labour Force Bulletin for the first Quarter 2016 is showing an increase in unemployment, 5,000 fewer people employed than this period last year.

The bulletin was released by the Central Statistical Office (CSO) on Monday.

The CSO says the information contained in the bulletin was based on data collected in the Continuous Sample Survey of Population conducted during the period January-March 2016.
