Raj's lawyers tell Kenneth Supersad to cease and desist with "The Raj Story"

Chutney singer Kenneth Supersad has been served with legal letters seeking to stop him from performing his 2018 song,”De Raj Story”.

The letter was served by attorney Wendy Ramnath-Panday, representing “Raj”, who shot into popularity after a video went viral online on a confrontation between him and his wife who alleged that he was cheating.

Breaking: Gov't raises Chutney Soca Monarch funding from $300,000 to $1 million

Finance Minister says the contribution to the Chutney Soca Monarch (CSM) will now be $1 million.

The minister was addressing a news conference Thursday afternoon.

He said the initial decision to give Southex $300,000 was based on false information that the Ministry donated $500,000 to CSM last year.

However, the actual figure was $1.5 million.

The decision made by the State is to reduce state funding to competitions like these by one third.

Cancelled! No Chutney Soca Monarch for the first time since 1996

There will be no Chutney Soca Monarch for Carnival 2018 as the organisers Southex officially announced its cancellation saying it is due to low sponsorship.

"We are saddened by this turn of events and find the timing rather suspicious given recent events. Therefore please be advised that the 2018 Chutney Soca Monarch is hereby formally cancelled due to low government and state support and our inability to fund the venture privately as a result of its sheer size and expense," Southex CEO George Singh told a news conference this morning..

Tobago Festivals Commission gets its first board since 2013

Festival tourism in Tobago can be boosted with the appointment of the Board of Commissioners for the Tobago Festivals Commission during a brief ceremony at the Division of Tourism, Culture and Transportation today.

Secretary of Tourism, Culture and Transportation, Nadine Stewart-Phillips, distributed Letters of Appointment to the members who are now charged with the responsibility of overseeing the management of all of Destination Tobago’s flagship festivals.

NCC Carnival registration forms ready

The National Carnival Commission (NCC) says registration forms for some junior and senior competitions are now available.

The NCC says forms will be available until the respective closing dates listed below:


* Kings & Queens - closing on January 26, 2018
* Individuals/Couples - closing on January 26, 2018
* Parade of the Bands - closing on February 1, 2018


President's declaration means Carnival 2018 is officially on

It might appear as just a procedural matter, but without it, there is no Carnival 2018.

President Anthony Carmona, SC has officially declared that in accordance with Section 47C (2) of the Liquor Licenses Act, the period of Carnival shall commence at 7.00 pm on Thursday 11th January, 2018 and ending at 12 midnight on Tuesday 13th February, 2018.
