Maharaj speaks on crime, death penalty on Monday

Senior Counsel Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj will on Monday speak about plans he submitted to Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley for the implementation of the death penalty, in accordance with a request made by the prime minister for his assistance.

A statement by Maharaj's office says he will address "the crisis facing the country with the unprecedented upsurge of criminal activities and the widespread insecurity of the population" at a news conference on Monday.

Archbishop sends resignation letter to Pope Francis; speaks out against death penalty

Catholic Archbishop Joseph Harris has submitted his resignation to the pope as is customary, having attained the age of 75.

He is currently awaiting word from Pope Francis on whether the resignation has been accepted. 

Archbishop Harris turned 75 on Sunday March 19th.

In a Facebook Live interview broadcast by The Archdiocese of Port-of-Spain, he confirmed the resignation letter had been sent.
