Education Ministry: No long lines by parents wanting to get students into primary schools

The Education Ministry is to monitor, through school supervisors, a practise by primary school principals to screen students who apply for enrollment into their schools.

Acting Leader of Government Business in the Senate, Agriculture Minister Clarence Rambharat spoke on the issue as he answered a question in the Senate on behalf of the Minister of Education, Anthony Garcia.

Parents take legal action against Education Ministry over alleged bullying incident

A pre-action protocol letter sent to Education Minister Anthony Garcia on behalf of relatives of Tristan Khan, is expected to be sent to the ministry's legal department for perusal today.

Khan, of Standard One, suffered a broken arm after being brutally beaten by a bully at the Mayaro Government Primary School on February 1.

In a telephone interview yesterday, Garcia said he had not yet seen the letter which was filed by attorney Douglas Bayley on behalf of Khan's family.

Education Ministry makes payments for all foreign and local scholars

The Finance and Accounts Division of the Ministry of Education has issued cheques to the financial institutions for payment to all foreign and local scholars for the period October – December 2016, a statement by the Ministry of education says.

This payment will cover allowances related to personal maintenance.

The statement says that Minister of Education Anthony Garcia has reiterated that all affected students will be able to access these payments by the latest, Monday 19th December, 2016.
