FIFA slaps life bans on two former T&T players

Two former Trinidad and Tobago football players have been banned for life from FIFA after being found guilty of match manipulation.

FIFA announced today that its Disciplinary Committee found nine individuals – eight players/former players as well as one players’ agent – guilty of having been involved in match manipulation in violation of art. 69 par. 1 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (Unlawfully influencing match results).

Lionel Messi has not made Fifa’s three-man shortlist for its Player of the Year award for the first time in 12 years.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric and Mohamed Salah made the cut ahead of the Argentina captain, who fired Barcelona to a domestic double last season.

Messi misses out on the final three for the overall player of the year for the first time since 2006.

He was part of the initial top 10 nominees, with Kevin De Bruyne, Raphael Varane, Antoine Greizmann, Eden Hazard, Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe joining him in failing to make the cut.

No room for Neymar on FIFA's 'Player of the Year' list

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi were among the names on the shortlist for FIFA’s player of the year award, but there was no room for Brazil star Neymar in the 10 nominees.

FIFA announced the list on Tuesday for the coveted FIFA Best Male Player accolade, with two-time winner Ronaldo making the cut along with Barcelona star Messi.

Also on the list was French teen sensation Kylian Mbappe, along with fellow World Cup winners Antoine Griezmann and Raphael Varane.

FIFA confirms 2026 World Cup spots; 6 for CONCACAF

FIFA has confirmed the number of spots that each football region will be given in the 2026 World Cup, giving CONCACAF 6 positions.

In late March, a FIFA committee recommended a format for how many teams from each confederation should go to the 2026 World Cup.

The process was crucial because that will be the first 48-team World Cup and each confederation was fighting for more of the 12 added spots.

On Tuesday, FIFA approved the committee's recommended allocations. Now the outline for the 2026 World Cup is official.

FIFA ranks T&T the "worst mover" in the world; Warriors now 11th in Concacaf below St Kitts & Nevis

Trinidad and Tobago has been ranked the worst mover in the latest FIFA rankings released today, falling five points to 83 in the world.

And it's on display for the whole world to see, as FIFA has placed a bold red marker next to T&T on its website, to signify "Worst Mover".

T&T is now below Cape Verde Islands, Curacao, Montenegro, Venezuela and St Kitts and Nevis.

FIFA approves World Cup expansion to 48 teams from 2026

The FIFA Council has rubber-stamped plans to expand the World Cup to 48 teams from 2026 onwards, adding 16 extra nations.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino's revamp plan received unanimous backing at a meeting in Zurich on Tuesday.

Delegates were asked to vote on four proposals to change the existing format or stick with the current format of 32 teams.
