Mysterious fire destroys two Ministry of Works' vehicles

Employees of the Ministry of Works’ Caroni District office at Woodford Lodge in Chaguanas are calling for the re-implementation of a 24-hour security service on the compound, following Monday night’s incident where two vehicles were believed to have been deliberately set on fire.

The T&T Guardian was told by an eyewitness that at about 9.30 pm, smoke was seen coming from a Pajero SUV and within minutes the entire vehicle burst into flames.

Mother of two dies in house fire

A mother of two has been killed in a fire which destroyed her family's home.

The fire started around 12;15 am Tuesday.

Residents saw smoke coming out of the house, located at Immortelle Street, Princes Town and raised an alarm.

The occupants of the home, Anita Ramdath, her husband and two young children, attempted to escape.

However, the woman became trapped in the burning house.

Fire officers responded but were unable to rescue 31-year-old Ramdath.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the blaze.


Firefighters contain fire at San Fernando mall

A fire at a mall on High Street San Fernando has been contained before spreading to nearby buildings.

CNC3 News understands that shortly after 10 am smoke was observed coming from the kitchen area of the food court at Edan Centre Mall.

The Fire Service was called in and officers were able to prevent the fire from advancing towards other establishments close by.

Traffic along High Street was disrupted due to the incident.


Fire leaves Cedros family homeless

A call is being made for a fire station to be built in Cedros, after a fire left a couple and their three children homeless yesterday.

Forty-one-year-old Johnny Lalloo, a self-employed construction worker, his wife Natasha Paul, and their children spent last night at a neighbour’s house following the incident.

Lalloo said that around 4.10 pm, about five minutes after they left their St Marie village home to go for a drive, someone called to say their house was on fire.

He said when they got back their concrete and wooden house was completely engulfed in flames.

Arson suspected in Couva fire

Arson is suspected in a fire which destroyed a Couva restaurant and bar yesterday morning.

Ten people employed at the Bat and Barrel Restaurant and Sports Bar at Rivulet Road are now without jobs. However, no injuries were reported from the blaze.

According to reports, the fire broke out in the early hours of Sunday shortly after a group of men accosted the security guard. A senior employee, who did not want to be named, said he was told three or four men tied up the security officer in the booth.
